Terms of use
Last updated: 15 October 2026
These terms govern the use of the Merryl app and the services that come with it. By creating an account, or by continuing without one, you accept them. The privacy policy says what happens to your data.
1. The publisher and the host (legal notice)
Merryl is published by JumpBeyondStars, the name under which Jean-Baptiste Schmidt, a French sole trader (entrepreneur individuel, EI), publishes the app. SIREN 923 577 613 (SIRET 923 577 613 00014), EU VAT number FR19923577613. Publication director: Jean-Baptiste Schmidt. Contact: support@merryl.app.
Hosting: the app, the website and the database are hosted by Fly.io, Inc., 2261 Market Street #4990, San Francisco, CA 94114, United States, phone +1 510 768 8430, on servers in Paris. Images and database backups are stored by Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited (Microsoft Azure), One Microsoft Place, South County Business Park, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, D18 P521, Ireland, phone +353 1 295 3826, in data centres in the Netherlands.
2. The service
Merryl helps you find, write, import and keep recipes, plan your meals, do your shopping and follow what you eat. Merryl, the app's assistant, writes recipes and ideas from your cravings, your tastes and what you have at home, and reads the recipes in the links and videos you import. You can also publish your recipes, the dishes you cook and comments, and follow other members.
The service changes over time: features may be added, changed or removed.
3. Your account
- Merryl is for people aged [15] and over.
- You sign in with a link sent by email, with Google, with Apple or with a password. Keep access to your email address: it is what protects your account. You are responsible for what is done from your account.
- Without an account, you can try Merryl with a limited number of generated recipes. Nothing you do without an account is published.
- Your handle, name, bio and avatar follow the rules in part 5.
- You can delete your account at any time, in Settings, with "Delete my account": a confirmation link is sent to you by email, and your data is then erased as the privacy policy says.
4. Merryl+
- A free account includes a limited number of generated recipes and video imports. Merryl+ is a subscription that lifts these limits and adds the features described in the app.
- The subscription is bought through the Google Play Store or the App Store, at the price shown in the app before the purchase. It renews every period unless you cancel it from your Google Play or Apple account before the current period ends.
- Payment, cancellation and refunds follow the terms of the store that took the payment. [right of withdrawal, and a service started before it ends: to be specified]
5. What you publish
What others see
A recipe you make public, its photos, the dishes you publish and your comments are visible to other members, as are your handle, name, bio, avatar and counts (recipes, followers, following). An "unlisted" recipe can be read by anyone with its link. A private recipe is visible to you only.
Your rights to your content
You keep ownership of what you publish. You grant the publisher, worldwide and for as long as the content is published, the free and non-exclusive right to host it, reproduce it, adapt it for display (size, format, translation) and show it in Merryl, including in other members' feeds. You also allow other members to remix your public recipes: Merryl writes them a variation, which credits your recipe.
Only publish what you have the right to publish: your own texts and photos, or those whose author agreed. A recipe imported from a link or a video stays for your personal use, unless its author allows you to share it.
The rules
Do not publish anything that:
- is illegal, or encourages an illegal act;
- harasses, threatens, insults or demeans a person or a group, in particular for their origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability;
- is sexual, violent or shocking;
- puts health at risk: self-harm, eating disorders, dangerous diets or "remedies";
- is spam, a scam, unsolicited advertising, or impersonates someone;
- reveals personal information about someone else;
- copies someone else's content without their consent.
Moderation
- An automatic filter reads what is about to be published: a recipe when it becomes public or unlisted and at each change, its photos, dishes, comments, profiles and avatars. What it refuses is not published.
- You can report a recipe, a dish, a comment or a profile. The Merryl team reads every report and may remove content, make a profile neutral (erase its name, bio and avatar, and replace its handle) or suspend an account. The reported person does not learn who reported them.
- You can block a member: neither of you sees what the other publishes, and you can no longer interact. They are not told.
6. Merryl, recipes and nutrition
- Merryl's recipes, ideas and remixes are written by artificial intelligence. They are suggestions and may contain mistakes. Always check the ingredients, allergens, quantities, cooking times and temperatures, especially for meat, fish, eggs and preserves.
- Nutrition values are estimates drawn from public tables such as Ciqual. Goals and tracking do not replace the advice of a doctor or a dietitian, especially during pregnancy, or with an allergy, an illness or a prescribed diet.
- Imported recipes belong to their authors. Merryl keeps the link to their source and their creator's name when it is known.
7. Liability
The publisher does its best to keep Merryl working, but does not guarantee that it is always available or free of errors. It is not responsible for content published by members, nor for what you cook from a recipe. Nothing in these terms reduces the rights the law gives you as a consumer.
8. Suspension and termination
If these terms are breached, the publisher may remove content, limit or suspend an account, and delete it after a serious or repeated breach. You can leave Merryl at any time by deleting your account.
9. Changes
These terms may change. You are told in the app about an important change before it applies.
10. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law. In case of disagreement, first write to support@merryl.app. You may also refer the matter, free of charge, to the consumer mediator: [name and website of the mediator]. Failing an agreement, the French courts have jurisdiction.
